Jonathan’s first blog

Jonathan with spelling board

Hello! Thank you for reading my blog. I am excited about telling you what my life is like, now I can talk all the time using my eyes to spell on an alphabet board. Will you imagine what it might be like to have waited 9 years to be able to talk?

In the year since beginning to talk my favourite thing to tell people is when I was young and I was ill I went to Jesus’ garden. I experienced so many things in Jesus’ garden I wanted to share some of this in my story for the BBC Radio 2 500 word story competition.

As all of my friends at the church and my school are able to talk I am enjoying asking them questions and talking to them.

When I learnt to spell it meant I could ask for things that I wanted to do. For my tenth birthday I was allowed to choose ten different ways to celebrate, my first choice was to bake every day, which I have a breadmaker for.

Spelling out the difference talking makes is very difficult so I have tried to describe it in poetry:

Song of Voice

As adept fingers point
My silent soul emerges,
Like the dawn blackbird’s song
Suddenly breaking the black.

Music buried in the mind
Sings melodies divine,
Of ancient tales yet untold
Unfurled to men astound.

Whose beauty hears my voice?
What depths saddened my pathway?
Soaring eagles spread wings
I fly to my destiny.

I have known you since you were born. I was at St Lawrence Church when your Daddy was the vicar there. I sang in the choir and played bass guitar in the music group. It is lovely to read your poetry. You have a special talent. I am looking forward to reading more blogs from you.

  7. Hi Jonathan, Like Dr Moose I trained at college alongside your Dad. Like James I am not good at remembering or re-finding blog sites so please ask your Mom to add me to her reminders list!! On your blog … wowie … what a first post!! It is great to be able to ‘hear’ you and begin to find out some f the things that have been going round in your mind. It must have been so frustrating for you before the communications board came along. I look forward to hearing your voice again … such a beautiful voice … and hearing you sing and soar. Thank you. Una.
PS Have just discovered I can ask to follow you so hopefully the technology will let me do that … but technology doesn’t always play nice with me!!

  16. Hi Jonathan, I’ve never looked at (or wanted to look at) a blog before, so this is a wonderful first for me – what a lovely lot friends and fans you have!, count me in – You are clearly a very fine young poet and I look forward to reading more of your work along the way. It has been great to meet you during my last two visits (with Soundbeam), you are an inspiration to me and I imagine to everyone you meet. I hope that you have great fun with Soundbeam and that it helps you to express yourself musically and that in time – some of your musical ‘imaginings’ might be heard by many people, Please do keep in touch – if you get stuck with anything please get a message to me – I would hope to be able to help… Keep up the great poetry and the bloggery (is that a word?)……. Hats off to you young man!, Adrian.

    • Hi Adrian,
Thank you for reading my blog. Soundbeam is fun, I love making music without any instrument and I thank you a lot for bringing Soundbeam to me. I used my Soundbeam at school to play music with my class in our class performance.

  17. Jonathan, I love your ambition to bake every day. Baking is good for the soul and everyone loves a homemae cake or loaf of bread. The fruit loaf was particularly yummy: shall be coming back for more. The Narnian birthday cake was a work of art. Keep on baking! Erica
